27 Days Until Dot Day....Sign Up & Start Planning Today!

One of our favorite times of the year is Dot Day and September 15 will be here before we know it!
In fact, Dot Day is only 27 days away so it is time for all of us to sign up and start planning to make this the BEST celebration yet!
You can read all about this special day and sign up here.

There is a wonderful educator's handbook that you will receive as part of the registration.
Then head over to the Get Involved...Making a Mark page to be inspired to Read, Create, Learn and Visit on Dot Day too.
You can sign up to attend the International Dot Day Celebration Livestream Discovery Education is hosting on September 13, 2016 at 1:00pm EST.
And don't forget to have The Dot ready to read, share and celebrate with your students!

EPIC is making this available for 60 days on their wonderful reading website.  You can sign up to read it here too.
Also, don't forget to check out Celebri-Dots, Terry Shay's amazing collection of DOTS from authors, illustrators, actors and sports personalities that he has brought together.
Brianna and I have also gathered tons of ideas and resources on our International Dot Day Pinterest Board

You can follow this and let me know if you'd like to be a collaborator on it too.
I love tying in lots of books and songs into our Dot Day celebrations.  Also, it is important to tie in the core subjects such as math, language arts, science, and more.

One of my favorite to use is Circle...A Cookie or a Sun in the Sky from Cantata Learning.  You can read the post I wrote last week about using this with Dot Day.

I know you will love the story and song!  And it is the perfect tie in for math during our Dot Day celebrations.
You can find the wonderful lesson plan from Cantata here too.
Everyday we add more ideas for Dot Day like this one today for Watercolor Doodles from the Art is Basic blog...one of my favorites!
I love how the dots are the base for the watercolored flowers.  This could be done as a collaborative project in the library or classroom to create a beautiful garden of dots.
Collaborative projects are the best for Dot Day!

In 2011, our library made a giant tape dot and passed it around the entire school for everyone to sign. All of the kids in kindergarten through 12th grade, teachers, administrators, school board members, parents and others signed this dot to make their mark on our community and world.
With all of these amazing ways to collaborate for Dot Day, it is time for us to start connecting our dots to make the biggest mark we can this year.

For the last several years, hundreds of us have used our Google Doc as a place to make and plan lots of special connections on September 15 and throughout the week of Dot Day.
You can go to the Dot Day Google Document at bit.ly/dotday2016.
Please include your information including name, location, grade level and subject, Twitter handle and whatever else you'd like to share.

As you start planning, add your schedule and ideas.  Others can then look at your profile and connect if they'd like to on the Google Document with you.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and ask questions.

Sign up, get involved with others on the Google Document, and plan special events that will inspire your students and communities to Make Their Mark On The World!
